Better Halo ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a Chrome extension that enhances the Halo learning management system experience. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data.
Data Collection and Usage
Chrome Storage
The extension uses Chrome's sync storage API to save your preferences, including:
- Theme selections and customizations
- Font preferences
- UI style preferences
- Assignment todo list settings
- Auto dark mode settings
- Confetti settings
- Class card button preferences
This data is:
- Stored locally on your device
- Encrypted and synced to Google's servers (as part of Chrome Sync)
- Synced across your devices where you're signed into Chrome
- Never accessed or used by us (the extension developers)
- Never sent to any third-party servers other than Google's Chrome Sync service
Cookie Access
The extension requests permission to read cookies from halo.gcu.edu to:
- Access authentication tokens (HttpOnly cookies) required for the assignment todo list feature
- These tokens are used only to fetch your assignment data from Halo's API
- Tokens are never stored, logged, or transmitted to any external servers
API Requests
The extension makes GraphQL API requests to:
https://gateway.halo.gcu.edu/- Halo's official API endpoint
These requests are made:
- Only when you use the assignment todo list feature
- Using your existing authentication tokens
- Directly from your browser to Halo's servers
- No data is sent to any third-party servers
No External Data Collection
- We do not collect analytics data
- We do not track your usage
- We do not send data to external servers (except via Chrome Sync, which is handled by Google)
- We do not use third-party services for data collection
- We do not sell or share your data
- We do not have access to your synced data (it's encrypted by Google)
Data Retention
- Data is stored locally on your device and synced via Chrome Sync
- You can clear all extension data by uninstalling the extension or clearing Chrome storage
- Clearing Chrome storage will remove data from both your device and Chrome Sync
- We do not retain any data on our servers (we don't have servers)
- Google retains synced data according to their Chrome Sync policies
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your stored data (via Chrome's storage API)
- Delete your data (by uninstalling the extension or clearing storage)
- Stop using the extension at any time
Third-Party Services
The extension does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, or data collection services.
Chrome Sync Service:
- Your preferences are synced using Google's Chrome Sync service
- This is a standard Chrome feature that syncs extension data across your devices
- Data is encrypted by Google and subject to Google's privacy policies
- We do not have access to your synced data
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date and posting a notice in the extension (if significant changes occur).
